What We Offer

PG Psychology Adelaide conducts Psycho-Educational Assessments to investigate cognitive abilities and academic skills. Working with parents and schools to assist in supporting students by conducting psycho-educational assessments that focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the child.

This information can provide a sound base on which to build the learning program best suited to the child, and further support the specific learning needs focus for the child who is struggling at school.

What does an assessment appointment include?

A Full Psycho/Educational Assessment includes:

  • An initial consult to discuss your concerns regarding your child’s educational development and behaviours of concern.
  • A Psychological Assessment to investigate strengths and weaknesses in cognitive abilities.
  • An Educational Assessment to investigate learning abilities and any specific areas of difficulty or ability.
  • A Behavioural Assessment (if needed) to seek further information as to how your child’s learning may be impacted upon by their behaviour.
  • A Comprehensive Written Report including background information, test materials and results, assessment findings and recommendations to support your child at school and at home.
  • A Follow-Up Feedback Session (by phone) to discuss the report and recommendations and forward action to support your child’s educational outcomes.
  • Liaise with the school to provide feedback regarding the report findings and recommendations to assist in the development of an appropriate assisted learning plan for you child, if needed, with your permission.

Type of Assessments

Purple Giraffe Psychology conducts evidence-based psychometric and educational assessments to investigate cognitive abilities and academic skills to identify SLDs or other areas that may impact your child’s learning through the use of well-established diagnostic tools such as:

  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is an iPad, verbal and paper assessment that investigates areas of strengths and weaknesses of cognitive abilities: verbal comprehension, visual spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory and visual processing speed, which all together define the full scale intellectual ability (known as the IQ score).
  • Wechsler Individual Achievement Test – Third Edition (WIAT-III) is an IPad and paper tasks assessment that investigates areas of strengths and weaknesses in academic skills: reading, written expression and maths.
  • Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing – Second Edition (CTOPP 2) is a paper based assessment on specific areas of phonological  or foundational literacy skills
  • Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System, Third Edition (ABAS-3) ABASS III is a parent and / or teacher form (sent via a web link) for the parent/teacher to select the consistently seen behaviours (e.g. personal care, social skills, daily functioning etc.) of the child or adolescent.
  • Behavioural and Adaptive measures such as the Conners-3 Rating Scale (ADHD) is a behavioural and adaptive measures assessment completed by the parent and/or teacher (sent via a web link) for the parent/teacher to select the consistently seen attention behaviours of the child or adolescent.

Proven Methods

The Wechsler assessment tools are empirically linked to provide a specific view of cognitive abilities, and specific areas of learning such as reading, spelling, writing, phonological knowledge and maths. Whilst the CTOPP investigates specific areas of foundational literacy skills to consider areas impacting literacy skills development.

Assessments areas include Dyslexia (reading difficulty), Dysgraphia (writing difficulty), Dyscalculia (maths difficulty). Behaviour can also impact learning and assessments into areas such as ADHD can also provide insight into why a child may be struggling to focus and concentrate.
